I have tested this with multiple controllers (joy-con, pro controller, gamecube controller) and only with the gamecube controller I notice a slight improvement. It just happens and it fucking sucks, because narrow straightways become absolute hell with this. This is without any input, on any sensitivity level and without any kind of motion or second stick camera control. But in this new version t he camera will sway slowly from left to right when you are moving slow. If you go straight ahead, the camera will always center behind you. For those who do no know: an automatic camera of follows your monkeyball when you turn. SMB 1 stages built on ultra precision and narrow paths suffer immensely because of thisĬhief among them is the following and it concerns the auto camera. small stick movements are too sensitive and janky compared to originals, it's not as precise t he camera will sway slowly from left to right when you are moving slow And it fucking sucks, because I do love and enjoy this game and I want it to do well. If you play Monkey Ball for the more puzzle like stages, maze like stages, speed stages, collectibles, mini games, whatever: buy this game.īut if you value SMB 1's ultra precise physics and controls, than I cannot in good faith recommend Banana Mania to you in it's current state. And most of the stages in the game, especially 90% of the SMB 2 ones, play just fine. I love the new higher accelaration, second stick camera controls and tweaked stages. I don't care that the physics are different. This is an incredible dissapointment to me. What does this all mean? It means that as far as I'm concerend that a lot of Super Monkey Ball 1 stages and some Super Monkey Ball 2 stages are borderline unplayable in this game, the ones that feature very narrow paths (and bonus points if they twist and turn). It's just not as insanely precise and the problem is you NEED that extreme precision for a lot of SMB1 expert stages, like Exam C. Banana Mania, by comparison, is more stuttery and stop and go. You can make WAY more subtle movements in the originals. I played the originals on Dolphin just now to confirm this. I think this ties into the second problem with the engine, that being small movements are too sensitive and janky compared to the originals. You can fix this by gaining speed, but obviously this is 1: subpar and 2: not a good strategy on every stage If you go straight ahead, the camera will always center behind you. For those who do no know: an automatic camera follows your monkeyball when you turn. The game looks great, the customization and accessabillity options are nice and a lot of the stages are tweaked and changed for the better.Īll that aside, the new engine has serious problems.Ĭhief among them is the following and it concerns the auto camera. Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely adore the clear effort and love that was put into Banan Mania. In particular if, you are a fan of the orinals. Ok, I need to talk to you all about this game.
